Secure Your Garage
I don’t know how many times I’ve drove down my neighborhood streets to see a garage door left open, and unsecured. Why do I notice this? Growing up, I have had 3 bicycles stolen straight out of my garage, over $1500 in stuff!
1 – Keep them closed
2 – Secure the emergency release cords with zip ties
3 – Install a solid wood side garage door
Most standard side garage doors that go to the side yard are made of flimsy pressed wood panels and hollow in the middle. A nice douse of water log and the bottoms of those doors can warp and simply be lifted up from the botton, making for an easy entry. I’d replace them with solid wood doors.
4 – Install a z-wave or wifi garage door sensor (curious about Z-Wave? Click here)
Do you ever wonder if you’ve left the garage door up? This will solve that problem. From the same app that you can arm your alarm system, you can also monitor, open, and close your garage door lift. See more details about this on the LiftMaster Website.
5 – Install a motion detected camera in the garage
In the event of an intrusion, this will capture footage, send you a notification, activate your alarm, and record a video clip of the burglar.
